I finally decided to try SAM-e after several years of battling depression and the awful side effects of the presecription antidepressants I was taking to control it. My best friend tried to get me to try SAM-e for almost a year, but I resisted because I thought that if traditional medication couldn’t help my depression, there was no way any kind of “alternative” therpay could possibly work. I could not have been more wrong! When I finally started taking SAM-e, I had been medication free for almost six months, and I was suffering from the symptoms of depresson on a daily basis. Within three days of when I started taking SAM-e, my mood shifted, and I felt my depression float away. It felt like a heavy weight I had been carrying for years was suddenly just GONE, and for the first time in years I felt as though I was actually “depression free” as opposed to just managing my symptoms. I take 200 to 400 mg daily, and I have not had to increase my doage once in the two years I have been taking this supplement. I know that in Europe, SAM-e is available by prescription only, but fortunately I live in the US, and I’m able to get it online or at my pharmacy without a perscription. I’m sure if they ever do make it prescription only, the drug companies will jack the price up, but for now it’s much less expensive than the antidepressants I was taking before. My friend, who is a chriropractor recommended the Life Extension brand, because she uses it in her practice, so that’s the brand I use.
